Industrial Visit to Sunway Medical Centre

On 20th June 2025, a delegation of nine MSORSM members embarked on an enriching industrial visit to Sunway Medical Centre. This experience offered an insider’s view of healthcare operations, from patient flow to inventory management.

Highlights of the Visit
● Welcoming Session We gathered in the main lobby, where the Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Cheah Xian-Nian, greeted us. His overview set the stage on Sunway’s integrated systems.
● Core Laboratory Tour Inside the automation-driven core laboratory, staff remained fully engaged, monitoring each process with focused attention.
● Sunway Sanctuary We made an additional stop at the Sunway Sanctuary, an integrated senior living community in the heart of Sunway City.
● Focus Group Discussion that tackled three operational pillars:

1. Patient journey experience
2. Staff scheduling in laboratory
3. Pharmacy inventory management

These discussions helped us gain a clear understanding of their operational practices and the challenges they face. This visit was just the beginning. Both teams are eager to transform today’s discussion into tangible projects, one of which is potential joint research on staf scheduling in the laboratory.
